Suttapiṭaka · Khuddakanikāya · Paṭisambhidāmagga · Vol. 31 · Section 391

[391] "Contemplates": how does one contemplate that body? One contemplates it as impermanent, not as permanent; one contemplates it as suffering (dukkha), not as pleasant; one contemplates it as not-self, not as self. One becomes disenchanted, one does not delight; one becomes dispassionate, one is not impassioned; one causes cessation (nirodha), one does not originate; one relinquishes, one does not grasp. Contemplating as impermanent, one abandons the perception of permanence; contemplating as suffering, one abandons the perception of pleasure; contemplating as not-self, one abandons the perception of self; becoming disenchanted, one abandons delight; becoming dispassionate, one abandons lust; causing cessation, one abandons origin (samudaya); relinquishing, one abandons grasping. Thus one contemplates that body.
