[426] In how many aspects are the five faculties (indriya) developed and well developed?
In ten aspects the five faculties are developed and well developed. Because faithlessness (assaddhindriya) has been abandoned, well abandoned, the faith faculty (saddhindriya) is developed, well developed; because the faith faculty has been developed, well developed, faithlessness (assaddhiya) is abandoned, well abandoned. Because laziness (kosajja) has been abandoned, well abandoned, the energy faculty (vīriyindriya) is developed, well developed; because the energy faculty has been developed, well developed, laziness is abandoned, well abandoned. Because heedlessness (pamāda) has been abandoned, well abandoned, the mindfulness faculty (satindriya) is developed, well developed; because the mindfulness faculty has been developed, well developed, heedlessness is abandoned, well abandoned. Because restlessness (uddhacca) has been abandoned, well abandoned, the concentration faculty (samādhindriya) is developed, well developed; because the concentration faculty has been developed, well developed, restlessness is abandoned, well abandoned. Because ignorance (avijjā) has been abandoned, well abandoned, the wisdom faculty (paññindriya) is developed, well developed; because the wisdom faculty has been developed, well developed, ignorance is abandoned, well abandoned. In these ten aspects the five faculties are developed and well developed.
