[51] The awakening factor of mindfulness (satisambojjhaṅga) should be directly known (abhiññeyya) in the sense of establishing (upaṭṭhāna); the awakening factor of investigation of dhammas (dhammavicayasambojjhaṅga) should be directly known in the sense of investigation (pavicaya); the awakening factor of energy (vīriyasambojjhaṅga) should be directly known in the sense of exertion (paggaha); the awakening factor of rapture (pītisambojjhaṅga) should be directly known in the sense of pervasion (pharaṇa); the awakening factor of tranquility (passaddhisambojjhaṅga) should be directly known in the sense of calming (upasama); the awakening factor of concentration (samādhi) (samādhisambojjhaṅga) should be directly known in the sense of non-distraction (avikkhepa); the awakening factor of equanimity (upekkhāsambojjhaṅga) should be directly known in the sense of reflection (paṭisaṅkhāna).
