[517] In the case of excellence of destination (gatisampatti), when [the kamma is] associated with knowledge (ñāṇa) (ñāṇasampayutta), through the conditioning of how many root-causes (hetu) does rebirth (upapatti) occur? For affluent khattiyas (khattiyamahāsāla), affluent brahmins (brāhmaṇamahāsāla), affluent householders (gahapatimahāsāla), and devas (deva) of the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), when [the kamma is] associated with knowledge, through the conditioning of how many root-causes does rebirth occur? For devas of the form sphere (rūpāvacara), through the conditioning of how many root-causes does rebirth occur? For devas of the formless sphere (arūpāvacara), through the conditioning of how many root-causes does rebirth occur?
In the case of excellence of destination, when [the kamma is] associated with knowledge, rebirth occurs through the conditioning of eight root-causes. For affluent khattiyas, affluent brahmins, affluent householders, and devas of the sense sphere, when [the kamma is] associated with knowledge, rebirth occurs through the conditioning of eight root-causes. For devas of the form sphere, rebirth occurs through the conditioning of eight root-causes. For devas of the formless sphere, rebirth occurs through the conditioning of eight root-causes.
