[518] In the case of the excellence of destination (gatisampatti), when [the rebirth-linking is] associated with knowledge (ñāṇa) (ñāṇasampayutte), conditioned by which eight causes does rebirth (upapatti) occur?
At the moment of impulsion (javana) of wholesome action (kusalakamma), three wholesome causes are connascence conditions (sahajātapaccaya) for the volition (cetanā) arisen at that moment; therefore it is said: "With the wholesome roots (kusalamūla) as condition, too, there are volitional formations (saṅkhārā)." At the moment of delight (nikanti), two unwholesome causes are connascence conditions for the volition arisen at that moment; therefore it is said: "With the unwholesome roots (akusalamūla) as condition, too, there are volitional formations." At the moment of rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi), three indeterminate (abyākata) causes are connascence conditions for the volition arisen at that moment; therefore it is said: "With mentality-materiality (nāmarūpa) as condition, too, there is consciousness; with consciousness as condition, too, there is mentality-materiality."
At the moment of rebirth-linking, the five aggregates (khandha) are connascence conditions, mutuality conditions (aññamaññapaccaya), dependence conditions (nissayapaccaya), and dissociation conditions (vippayuttapaccaya). At the moment of rebirth-linking, the four great primary elements (mahābhūta) are connascence conditions, mutuality conditions, and dependence conditions. At the moment of rebirth-linking, the three life-formations (jīvitasaṅkhārā) are connascence conditions, mutuality conditions, dependence conditions, and dissociation conditions. At the moment of rebirth-linking, mentality and materiality are connascence conditions, mutuality conditions, dependence conditions, and dissociation conditions. At the moment of rebirth-linking, these fourteen dhammas are connascence conditions, mutuality conditions, dependence conditions, and dissociation conditions. At the moment of rebirth-linking, the four immaterial aggregates are connascence conditions, mutuality conditions, dependence conditions, and association conditions (sampayuttapaccaya). At the moment of rebirth-linking, the five faculties (indriya) are connascence conditions, mutuality conditions, dependence conditions, and association conditions. At the moment of rebirth-linking, the three causes are connascence conditions, mutuality conditions, dependence conditions, and association conditions. At the moment of rebirth-linking, mentality and consciousness are connascence conditions, mutuality conditions, dependence conditions, and association conditions. At the moment of rebirth-linking, these fourteen dhammas are connascence conditions, mutuality conditions, dependence conditions, and association conditions. At the moment of rebirth-linking, these twenty-eight dhammas are connascence conditions, mutuality conditions, dependence conditions, and dissociation conditions.
In the case of the excellence of destination, when [the rebirth-linking is] associated with knowledge, rebirth occurs conditioned by these eight causes.
