[520] Through the conditionality of which eight causes does rebirth occur for the devas of the form realm (rūpāvacara)? At the moment of impulsion (javana) of wholesome kamma, three causes are wholesome … For the devas of the form realm, rebirth occurs through the conditionality of these eight causes. Through the conditionality of which eight causes does rebirth occur for the devas of the formless realm (arūpāvacara)? At the moment of impulsion of wholesome kamma, three causes are wholesome; they are connascence conditions (sahajātapaccaya) for the volition (cetanā) arisen at that moment. Therefore it is said: with wholesome roots as condition also, there are volitional formations (saṅkhārā). At the moment of delight (nikanti), two causes are unwholesome; they are connascence conditions for the volition arisen at that moment. Therefore it is said: with unwholesome roots as condition also, there are volitional formations. At the moment of rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi), three causes are indeterminate (abyākata); they are connascence conditions for the volition arisen at that moment. Therefore it is said: with name-and-form as condition also, there is consciousness; with consciousness as condition also, there is name-and-form. At the moment of rebirth-linking, the four immaterial aggregates are connascence conditions, are mutuality conditions (aññamaññapaccaya), are dependence conditions (nissayapaccaya), are association conditions (sampayuttapaccaya). At the moment of rebirth-linking, the five faculties (indriya) are connascence conditions, are mutuality conditions, are dependence conditions, are association conditions. At the moment of rebirth-linking, the three causes are connascence conditions, are mutuality conditions, are dependence conditions, are association conditions. At the moment of rebirth-linking, name and consciousness are connascence conditions, are mutuality conditions, are dependence conditions, are association conditions. At the moment of rebirth-linking, these fourteen states are connascence conditions, are mutuality conditions, are dependence conditions, are association conditions. For the devas of the formless realm, rebirth occurs through the conditionality of these eight causes.
