[525] Bhikkhus, there are these four distortions of perception (saññāvipallāsa), distortions of mind (citta) (cittavipallāsa), and distortions of view (diṭṭhivipallāsa). What four? Bhikkhus, [to hold] with regard to what is impermanent, "It is permanent," is a distortion of perception, a distortion of mind, a distortion of view. Bhikkhus, [to hold] with regard to what is suffering (dukkha), "It is pleasant," is a distortion of perception, a distortion of mind, a distortion of view. Bhikkhus, [to hold] with regard to what is not-self, "It is self," is a distortion of perception, a distortion of mind, a distortion of view. Bhikkhus, [to hold] with regard to what is foul, "It is beautiful," is a distortion of perception, a distortion of mind, a distortion of view. These, bhikkhus, are the four distortions of perception, distortions of mind, distortions of view.
