[53] The faculties (indriyā) should be directly known in the sense of dominance; the powers (balā) should be directly known in the sense of being unshakable; the factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga) should be directly known in the sense of leading out; the path (magga) should be directly known in the sense of being a cause; the establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna) should be directly known in the sense of establishing; the right strivings (sammappadhānā) should be directly known in the sense of striving; the bases of spiritual power (iddhipādā) should be directly known in the sense of succeeding; the truths (saccā) should be directly known in the sense of being true; serenity (samatha) should be directly known in the sense of non-distraction; insight (vipassanā) should be directly known in the sense of contemplation; serenity and insight should be directly known in the sense of having a single function; the coupling (yuganaddha) should be directly known in the sense of not overstepping one another.
