[54] Purity of virtue (sīlavisuddhi) should be directly known (abhiññeyyā) in the sense of restraint; purity of mind (cittavisuddhi) should be directly known in the sense of non-distraction; purity of view (diṭṭhivisuddhi) should be directly known in the sense of seeing; liberation (vimokkha) should be directly known in the sense of being released; true knowledge (vijjā) should be directly known in the sense of penetration; deliverance (vimutti) should be directly known in the sense of relinquishment; knowledge (ñāṇa) of destruction should be directly known in the sense of cutting off; knowledge of non-arising should be directly known in the sense of tranquillization. Zeal (chanda) should be directly known in the sense of being the root; attention (manasikāra) should be directly known in the sense of origination; contact (phassa) should be directly known in the sense of combination; feeling (vedanā) should be directly known in the sense of convergence; concentration (samādhi) should be directly known in the sense of being foremost; mindfulness should be directly known in the sense of predominance; wisdom (paññā) should be directly known in the sense of being higher than that; deliverance should be directly known in the sense of being the core; Nibbāna, which merges into the deathless (amatogadhaṃ nibbānaṃ), should be directly known in the sense of being the conclusion.
