[580] "May all beings be free from enmity, may they be secure, may they be happy" — thus one sees rightly: the liberation of mind through loving-kindness (mettā cetovimutti) is developed by Right View (sammādiṭṭhi). "May all beings be free from enmity, may they be secure, may they be happy" — thus one rightly applies the mind: the liberation of mind through loving-kindness is developed by Right Thought (sammāsaṅkappa). "May all beings be free from enmity, may they be secure, may they be happy" — thus one rightly embraces: the liberation of mind through loving-kindness is developed by Right Speech (sammāvācā). "May all beings be free from enmity, may they be secure, may they be happy" — thus one rightly originates: the liberation of mind through loving-kindness is developed by Right Action (sammākammanta). "May all beings be free from enmity, may they be secure, may they be happy" — thus one rightly purifies: the liberation of mind through loving-kindness is developed by Right Livelihood (sammā-ājīva). "May all beings be free from enmity, may they be secure, may they be happy" — thus one rightly exerts: the liberation of mind through loving-kindness is developed by Right Effort (sammāvāyāma). "May all beings be free from enmity, may they be secure, may they be happy" — thus one rightly establishes [mindfulness]: the liberation of mind through loving-kindness is developed by Right Mindfulness (sammāsati). "May all beings be free from enmity, may they be secure, may they be happy" — thus one rightly concentrates: the liberation of mind through loving-kindness is developed by Right Concentration (sammāsamādhi).
These eight path factors are the repeated practice (āsevanā) of the liberation of mind through loving-kindness; by these eight path factors the liberation of mind through loving-kindness is repeatedly practiced. These eight path factors are the development (bhāvanā) of the liberation of mind through loving-kindness; by these eight path factors the liberation of mind through loving-kindness is developed. These eight path factors are the making-much-of (bahulīkamma) of the liberation of mind through loving-kindness; by these eight path factors the liberation of mind through loving-kindness is made much of. These eight path factors are the adornment of the liberation of mind through loving-kindness; by these eight path factors the liberation of mind through loving-kindness is well adorned. These eight path factors are the requisites (parikkhāra) of the liberation of mind through loving-kindness; by these eight path factors the liberation of mind through loving-kindness is well equipped. These eight path factors are the retinue of the liberation of mind through loving-kindness; by these eight path factors the liberation of mind through loving-kindness is well attended.
These eight path factors are, for the liberation of mind through loving-kindness, its repeated practice, its development, its making-much-of, its adornment, its requisites, its retinue, its fulfillment; they are accompanying it, arisen together with it, conjoined with it, associated with it; they are its leaping forward, its gaining of confidence, its steadying, its being released; they are the seeing that "this is peaceful"; they are made a vehicle, made a basis, persistently maintained, consolidated, well undertaken, well developed, well resolved upon, well carried through, well released; they generate it, they make it shine, they make it radiant.
