[64] How is it that wisdom (paññā) as the giving of ear (sotāvadhāna), the act of understanding that, is knowledge born of what is heard (sutamaye ñāṇa), namely: "These dhammas are to be abandoned"?
One dhamma is to be abandoned: the conceit "I am" (asmimāna). Two dhammas are to be abandoned: ignorance (avijjā) and craving for existence (bhavataṇhā). Three dhammas are to be abandoned: the three cravings (taṇhā). Four dhammas are to be abandoned: the four floods (ogha). Five dhammas are to be abandoned: the five hindrances (nīvaraṇa). Six dhammas are to be abandoned: the six classes of craving (taṇhākāyā). Seven dhammas are to be abandoned: the seven latent tendencies (anusaya). Eight dhammas are to be abandoned: the eight wrongnesses (micchatta). Nine dhammas are to be abandoned: the nine dhammas rooted in craving (taṇhāmūlakā dhammā). Ten dhammas are to be abandoned: the ten wrongnesses.
