[644] What is emptiness through escape (nissaraṇasuñña)? Through renunciation (nekkhamma), sensual desire is both escaped from and empty (suñña); through non-ill will (abyāpāda), ill will is both escaped from and empty; through the perception of light (ālokasaññā), dullness and drowsiness is both escaped from and empty; through non-distraction (avikkhepa), restlessness is both escaped from and empty; through the defining of dhammas (dhammavavatthāna), doubt is both escaped from and empty; through knowledge (ñāṇa), ignorance is both escaped from and empty; through gladness (pāmujja), discontent (arati) is both escaped from and empty; through the first jhāna (paṭhamajjhāna), the hindrances (nīvaraṇa) are both escaped from and empty … through the path of arahantship (arahattamagga), all defilements (kilesa) are both escaped from and empty. This is emptiness through escape.
