[643] What is voidness through tranquilization (paṭippassaddhisuñña)? Through renunciation (nekkhamma), sensual desire is both tranquilized and void; through non-ill-will, ill will is both tranquilized and void; through the perception of light (ālokasaññā), dullness and drowsiness are both tranquilized and void; through non-distraction (avikkhepa), restlessness is both tranquilized and void; through the defining of dhammas (dhammavavatthāna), doubt is both tranquilized and void; through knowledge (ñāṇa), ignorance is both tranquilized and void; through gladness (pāmujja), discontent is both tranquilized and void; through the first jhāna, the hindrances (nīvaraṇa) are both tranquilized and void; … through the path of Arahantship, all defilements (kilesa) are both tranquilized and void. This is voidness through tranquilization.
