[647] What is empty in both respects (dubhatosuñña)? The eye that is internal and forms that are external — both of these are empty of self, or of what belongs to self, or of what is permanent, or of what is stable, or of what is everlasting, or of what is not subject to change. The ear that is internal and sounds that are external … The nose that is internal and odours that are external; the tongue that is internal and tastes that are external; the body that is internal and tangible objects that are external; the mind that is internal and mental phenomena (dhammā) that are external — both of these are empty of self, or of what belongs to self, or of what is permanent, or of what is stable, or of what is everlasting, or of what is not subject to change.
