[653] What is voidness (suñña) through penetration (paṭivedha)? The penetration of renunciation (nekkhamma) is void of sensual desire; the penetration of non-ill will (abyāpāda) is void of ill will; the penetration of the perception of light (ālokasaññā) is void of dullness and drowsiness; the penetration of non-distraction (avikkhepa) is void of restlessness; the penetration of the defining of dhammas (dhammavavatthāna) is void of doubt; the penetration of knowledge (ñāṇa) is void of ignorance; the penetration of gladness (pāmojja) is void of discontent; the penetration of the first jhāna is void of the hindrances (nīvaraṇa) … the penetration of the path of Arahantship is void of all defilements (kilesa). This is voidness through penetration.
