[67] How is it that wisdom in attending with the ear (sotāvadhāna) — the understanding of that, namely, "These dhammas are to be developed" — is knowledge born of learning (sutamaya-ñāṇa)?
One dhamma is to be developed: mindfulness directed to the body (kāyagatā sati) accompanied by pleasantness (sāta). Two dhammas are to be developed: serenity (samatha) and insight (vipassanā). Three dhammas are to be developed: the three concentrations (samādhi). Four dhammas are to be developed: the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna). Five dhammas are to be developed: the five-factored right concentration (sammāsamādhi). Six dhammas are to be developed: the six subjects of recollection (anussatiṭṭhāna). Seven dhammas are to be developed: the seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga). Eight dhammas are to be developed: the Noble Eightfold Path. Nine dhammas are to be developed: the nine factors of exertion for purification (pārisuddhippadhāniyaṅga). Ten dhammas are to be developed: the ten kasiṇa bases (kasiṇāyatana).
