[671] "They lead to abundance of wisdom (paññābāhulla)": what is abundance of wisdom?
Here someone gives weight to wisdom (paññā), conducts himself by wisdom, has wisdom as his resort, is resolved upon wisdom, has wisdom as his banner, has wisdom as his standard, has wisdom as his dominant influence; he abounds in investigation (vicaya), abounds in probing (pavicaya), abounds in discernment (okkhāyana), abounds in close observation (sampekkhāyana), is of a nature to observe closely; he dwells and conducts himself with what has been made clear; he gives weight to that, abounds in that, slants toward that, slopes toward that, inclines toward that, is resolved upon that, has that as his dominant influence. Just as one who gives weight to the group is called "one given to abundance of the group"; one who gives weight to robes (cīvara) is called "one given to abundance of robes"; one who gives weight to the bowl is called "one given to abundance of the bowl"; one who gives weight to lodging (senāsana) is called "one given to abundance of lodging"; even so, here someone gives weight to wisdom, conducts himself by wisdom, has wisdom as his resort, is resolved upon wisdom, has wisdom as his banner, has wisdom as his standard, has wisdom as his dominant influence; he abounds in investigation, abounds in probing, abounds in discernment, abounds in close observation, is of a nature to observe closely; he dwells and conducts himself with what has been made clear; he gives weight to that, abounds in that, slants toward that, slopes toward that, inclines toward that, is resolved upon that, has that as his dominant influence. "They lead to abundance of wisdom": this is abundance of wisdom.
