[689] What is success through the pervasion of concentration (samādhivipphārā iddhi)?
"The meaning of abandoning (pahānaṭṭha) the hindrances (nīvaraṇa) is accomplished through the first jhāna" — thus it is success through the pervasion of concentration. "The meaning of abandoning thought-conception and discursive thought (vitakka-vicāra) is accomplished through the second jhāna" — thus it is success through the pervasion of concentration. "The meaning of abandoning rapture (pīti) is accomplished through the third jhāna" — … "The meaning of abandoning pleasure and pain is accomplished through the fourth jhāna" — … "The meaning of abandoning the perception of form (rūpasaññā), the perception of repulsion (paṭighasaññā), and the perception of diversity (nānattasaññā) is accomplished through the attainment of the Sphere of Infinity of Space (ākāsānañcāyatana-samāpatti)" — … "The meaning of abandoning the perception of the Sphere of Infinity of Space is accomplished through the attainment of the Sphere of Infinity of Consciousness (viññāṇañcāyatana-samāpatti)" — … "The meaning of abandoning the perception of the Sphere of Infinity of Consciousness is accomplished through the attainment of the Sphere of Nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatana-samāpatti)" — … "The meaning of abandoning the perception of the Sphere of Nothingness is accomplished through the attainment of the Sphere of Neither Perception Nor Non-Perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana-samāpatti)" — thus it is success through the pervasion of concentration.
There was success through the pervasion of concentration on the part of the Venerable Sāriputta; success through the pervasion of concentration on the part of the Venerable Sañjīva; success through the pervasion of concentration on the part of the Venerable Khāṇukoṇḍañña; success through the pervasion of concentration on the part of the laywoman Uttarā; success through the pervasion of concentration on the part of the laywoman Sāmāvatī. This is success through the pervasion of concentration.
