[695] "Breakthrough (abhisamaya)": by what does one break through? One breaks through with the mind (citta). If one breaks through with the mind, then one without knowledge (ñāṇa) breaks through. One without knowledge does not break through; one breaks through with knowledge. If one breaks through with knowledge, then one without mind breaks through. One without mind does not break through; one breaks through with both mind and knowledge. If one breaks through with mind and knowledge, then one breaks through with sense-sphere mind (kāmāvacara-citta) and knowledge. One does not break through with sense-sphere mind and knowledge; then one breaks through with form-sphere mind (rūpāvacara-citta) and knowledge. One does not break through with form-sphere mind and knowledge; then one breaks through with formless-sphere mind (arūpāvacara-citta) and knowledge. One does not break through with formless-sphere mind and knowledge; then one breaks through with the mind of ownership of kamma (kammassakatā-citta) and knowledge. One does not break through with the mind of ownership of kamma and knowledge; then one breaks through with the mind in conformity with truth (saccānulomika-citta) and knowledge. One does not break through with the mind in conformity with truth and knowledge; then one breaks through with past mind and knowledge. One does not break through with past mind and knowledge; then one breaks through with future mind and knowledge. One does not break through with future mind and knowledge; then one breaks through with present mundane mind and knowledge. One does not break through with present mundane mind and knowledge; one breaks through with the present mind and knowledge at the moment of the supramundane path (lokuttaramagga).
