[707] What are the five relinquishments (vossagga) of right view (sammādiṭṭhi)? Relinquishment by suppression (vikkhambhanavossagga), relinquishment by the opposite factor (tadaṅgavossagga), relinquishment by cutting off (samucchedavossagga), relinquishment by tranquilization (paṭippassaddhivossagga), and relinquishment by escape (nissaraṇavossagga). Relinquishment by suppression of the hindrances (nīvaraṇa) is for one developing the first jhāna; relinquishment by the opposite factor of views is for one developing concentration (samādhi) partaking of penetration; relinquishment by cutting off is for one developing the supramundane path leading to destruction; relinquishment by tranquilization is at the moment of fruition; and relinquishment by escape is cessation (nirodha), Nibbāna. These are the five relinquishments of right view. One becomes aroused with zeal regarding these five relinquishments, resolved through faith, and one's mind (citta) is well established.
