Paññāvaggasamasīsakathā

[724] …causes cessation (nirodheti): with renunciation (nekkhamma) one causes the cessation of sensual desire (kāmacchanda); with non-ill will (abyāpāda) one causes the cessation of ill will (byāpāda); with the perception of light (ālokasaññā) one causes the cessation of dullness and drowsiness (thīnamiddha); with non-distraction (avikkhepa) one causes the cessation of restlessness (uddhacca); with the defining of dhammas (dhammavavatthāna) one causes the cessation of doubt (vicikicchā); with knowledge (ñāṇa) one causes the cessation of ignorance (avijjā); with gladness (pāmujja) one causes the cessation of discontent (arati); with the first jhāna one causes the cessation of the hindrances (nīvaraṇa) … with the path (magga) of Arahantship one causes the cessation of all defilements (kilesa). "Non-appearance" (anupaṭṭhānatā): for one who has obtained renunciation, sensual desire does not appear; for one who has obtained non-ill will, ill will does not appear; for one who has obtained the perception of light, dullness and drowsiness do not appear; for one who has obtained non-distraction, restlessness does not appear; for one who has obtained the defining of dhammas, doubt does not appear; for one who has obtained knowledge, ignorance does not appear; for one who has obtained gladness, discontent does not appear; for one who has obtained the first jhāna, the hindrances do not appear … for one who has obtained the path of Arahantship, all defilements do not appear.
