[74] How is there development (bhāvanā) in the sense that the faculties (indriya) have a single function (ekarasa)?
For one abandoning sensual desire (kāmacchanda), the five faculties have a single function by way of renunciation (nekkhamma); thus there is development in the sense that the faculties have a single function. For one abandoning ill will (byāpāda), the five faculties have a single function by way of non-ill will (abyāpāda); thus there is development in the sense that the faculties have a single function. … For one abandoning all defilements (kilesa), the five faculties have a single function by way of the path of Arahantship (arahattamagga); thus there is development in the sense that the faculties have a single function.
