[75] How is it development (bhāvanā) in the sense of carrying forward the energy appropriate thereto?
For one abandoning sensual desire (kāmacchanda), it carries forward energy (vīriya) by way of renunciation (nekkhamma); thus it is development in the sense of carrying forward the energy appropriate thereto. For one abandoning ill will (byāpāda), it carries forward energy by way of non-ill will; thus it is development in the sense of carrying forward the energy appropriate thereto … For one abandoning all defilements (kilesa), it carries forward energy by way of the path of Arahantship; thus it is development in the sense of carrying forward the energy appropriate thereto. Thus it is development in the sense of carrying forward the energy appropriate thereto.
