[94] How is wisdom in the discernment of conditions (paccayapariggaha) knowledge of the stability of dhammas (dhammaṭṭhitiñāṇa)?
Ignorance (avijjā) is the basis for the arising (uppādaṭṭhiti) of volitional formations (saṅkhārā), the basis for their occurrence (pavattaṭṭhiti), the basis as their sign (nimittaṭṭhiti), the basis as their accumulation (āyūhanaṭṭhiti), the basis as their bondage (saññogaṭṭhiti), the basis as their impediment (palibodhaṭṭhiti), the basis as their origin (samudayaṭṭhiti), the basis as their cause (hetuṭṭhiti), and the basis as their condition (paccayaṭṭhiti). In these nine ways ignorance is the condition and volitional formations are conditionally arisen; both these dhammas are conditionally arisen — wisdom in the discernment of conditions [understanding] thus is knowledge of the stability of dhammas.
In the past period too and in the future period too, ignorance is the basis for the arising of volitional formations, the basis for their occurrence, the basis as their sign, the basis as their accumulation, the basis as their bondage, the basis as their impediment, the basis as their origin, the basis as their cause, and the basis as their condition. In these nine ways ignorance is the condition and volitional formations are conditionally arisen; both these dhammas are conditionally arisen — wisdom in the discernment of conditions [understanding] thus is knowledge of the stability of dhammas.
Volitional formations [are the basis for the arising … and the basis as condition] of consciousness (viññāṇa) … consciousness of name-and-form (nāmarūpa); name-and-form of the six sense bases (saḷāyatana); the six sense bases of contact (phassa); contact of feeling (vedanā); feeling of craving (taṇhā); craving of clinging (upādāna); clinging of existence (bhava); existence of birth (jāti); birth is the basis for the arising of aging-and-death (jarāmaraṇa), the basis for its occurrence, the basis as its sign, the basis as its accumulation, the basis as its bondage, the basis as its impediment, the basis as its origin, the basis as its cause, and the basis as its condition. In these nine ways birth is the condition and aging-and-death is conditionally arisen; both these dhammas are conditionally arisen — wisdom in the discernment of conditions [understanding] thus is knowledge of the stability of dhammas.
