[116] At that time I was a deva-king, Varuṇa by name; together with carriage-teams, troops, and mounts, I attended upon the Fully Enlightened One (Sambuddha). [Siam ed. apparatus printed at this point: ¹ M. (Burmese), Yu. (European) editions: "senāsāvimhitā ahu"; ² M.: "padamuddhari cakkhumā".] When the Lord of the World, Atthadassī, supreme among two-footed beings,¹ had attained final Nibbāna, I took every instrument of music and went to the supreme Bodhi tree. With instrumental music and with dance, furnished with every kind of cymbal,² I attended upon the supreme Bodhi tree as though upon the Fully Enlightened One face to face. Having attended upon that Bodhi, the tree sprung from the earth, I folded my legs crosswise, and right there I met my end. Gladdened by my own deed, confident in the supreme Bodhi, through that confidence of mind (citta) I arose in the Nimmāna [Nimmānarati] heaven. Sixty thousand instruments of music surround me at all times as I fare on among humans and among devas, in existence after existence. My three fires³ are extinguished; all existences have been uprooted; I bear my final body in the dispensation of the Fully Self-Enlightened One (Sammāsambuddha). In the five-hundredth aeon (kappa) from this one, there were thirty-four warrior-nobles (khattiya), Subāhu by name, endowed with the seven treasures. The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā), and these eight liberations (vimokkha) as well, and the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's dispensation has been fulfilled. Thus indeed did the Venerable Elder Ekāsaniya speak these verses. The Apadāna of the Elder Ekāsaniya is concluded. [Siam ed. apparatus: ¹ M., Yu.: "Atthadassīnaruttame". ² M., Yu.: "sammatāḷasamāhito". ³ M., Yu.: "tividhaggī".] The fifth: the Apadāna of the Elder Suvaṇṇapupphiya (115)
