To Siddhattha, the Blessed One,
the lord of two-footed beings, the steadfast one,
I gave a most excellent elephant,
with tusks like chariot-poles, of mighty strength.
I experience the supreme goal,
the unsurpassed state of peace (santipada);
the gift of an elephant was given by me
to him who seeks the welfare of all the world.
In the ninety-fourth aeon (kappa) from now,
when I gave that elephant then,
I know of no bad destination (duggati):
this is the fruit of the gift of an elephant.
In the seventy-eighth aeon
there were sixteen warrior-rulers (khattiya),
wheel-turning monarchs (cakkavattī) of great power,
named Samantapāsādika.
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā),
and also these eight liberations (vimokkha),
and the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized:
the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled.
Thus indeed the Venerable Hatthidāyaka the Elder spoke these verses.
