[238] In the city of Aruṇavatī I was then a dyer (vaṇṇakāra);
at the shrine (cetiya) I dyed the cloth articles in various colors.
In the thirty-first aeon (kappa) from now I dyed that color;
I know of no bad destination (duggati) — this is the fruit of the gift of color (vaṇṇadāna).
In the twenty-third aeon from now there was one bearing the name Candasama,
a wheel-turning monarch (cakkavatti) endowed with the seven treasures, of great power.
The four analytical knowledges (paṭisambhidā), and these eight liberations (vimokkha) as well,
and the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled.
Thus indeed the Venerable Elder Vaṇṇakāraka spoke these verses.
