On Mount Himavanta there was a great river, fair to behold;
there I saw one free of lust, radiant, fair to behold.
Seeing him devoted to the supreme calm, my mind struck with wonder,
filled with confidence, I gave him a tuber (āluva) with my own hands.
In the thirty-first aeon from now, since I gave that tuber,
I know of no bad destination — this is the fruit of the tuber.
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā), and these eight liberations (vimokkha) too,
the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled.
Thus indeed the Venerable Āluvadāyaka the Elder spoke these verses.
