[376] When the Sambuddha, the Great Seer Padumuttara,
attained final Nibbāna,
all the people gathered together
and bore his body forth.
While the body was being borne out,
as the drums were sounding,
with a confident mind, glad at heart,
I made worship with a patti flower.
The flower with which I made worship
a hundred thousand aeons from now —
I know of no bad destination (duggati):
this is the fruit of having worshipped the body.
Welcome indeed was my coming
into the presence of my Buddha;
the three true knowledges (vijjā) have been attained,
the Buddha's teaching (sāsana) has been fulfilled.
My defilements (kilesa) have been burned away,
all existences (bhava) have been uprooted;
like an elephant that has severed its bonds,
I dwell without taints (āsava).
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā),
and these eight liberations (vimokkha) as well,
and the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized;
the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled.
Thus indeed did the Venerable Pattipupphiya the Elder speak these verses.
The Apadāna of the Elder Pattipupphiya is concluded.
