[39] Not far from the Himavant, I was then an ascetic (tāpasa);
I lived on garlic — garlic was my food.
Having filled my carrying-baskets (khārī), I went to the monastery of the Saṅgha (saṅghārāma);
joyful, with a joyful mind (citta), I gave garlic to the Saṅgha.
Having given garlic to the Saṅgha devoted to the teaching of Vipassī, the foremost of men,
I rejoiced in heaven (sagga) for an eon (kappa).
Ninety-one eons ago from now, the garlic that I gave then —
I know of no bad destination (duggati): this is the fruit of the garlic.
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā), and also these eight liberations (vimokkha),
the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled.
Thus indeed the Venerable Elder Lasuṇadāyaka spoke these verses.
