[36] Having plunged into a sāla grove in full bloom, the sage (muni) Vessabhū sat down in the mountain fastnesses, like a nobly born maned lion (kesarī). #1 Ma. (Burmese ed.): Uttaripupphiyatthera…; Yu. (European ed.): Utuḷhipupphiyatthera… #2 Ma.: uttarimālaṃ; Yu.: utuḷhimālaṃ. 3 Yu.: yaṃ pupphamabhiropayiṃ. With a confident mind (citta), glad at heart, I made offering with a hog-plum (ambāṭaka) flower to the Great Hero,¹ the field of merit (puññakkhetta) — full of confidence, with my own hands. In the thirty-first aeon from now, since I offered up that flower, I know of no bad destination (duggati): this is the fruit of worship of the Buddha. My defilements (kilesa) have been burnt away; all existences (bhava) have been extirpated; like an elephant (nāga) that has burst its bonds, I dwell without taints (āsava). Welcome indeed was my coming into the presence of my Buddha: the three true knowledges (vijjā) have been attained; the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled. The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā) and also these eight liberations (vimokkha), the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled. Thus indeed the Venerable Elder Ambāṭakiya spoke these verses. The Apadāna of the Elder Ambāṭakiya is concluded. The seventh: the Apadāna of the Elder Sīhāsanika (447)
