[267] Which phenomena (dhammā) are wholesome? On the occasion when one develops the supramundane jhāna (lokuttara jhāna) — leading out [of the round] (niyyānika), tending to the dismantling [of the round] (apacayagāmī) — for the abandoning of views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first stage (bhūmi): quite secluded from sensual pleasures … one enters upon and dwells in the first jhāna, [which is] desireless (appaṇihita) — on that occasion there is contact (phassa) … there is non-distraction (avikkhepa) … These phenomena are wholesome.
Which phenomena are wholesome? On the occasion when one develops the supramundane jhāna — leading out [of the round], tending to the dismantling [of the round] — for the abandoning of views, for the attainment of the first stage: with the subsiding of thought-conception (vitakka) and discursive thought (vicāra) … the second jhāna … the third jhāna … the fourth jhāna … the first jhāna … one enters upon and dwells in the fifth jhāna, [which is] desireless — on that occasion there is contact … there is non-distraction … These phenomena are wholesome.
