Suññatavāra

Abhidhammapiṭaka · Dhammasaṅgaṇī · Vol. 34 · Section 457

[457] Which phenomena (dhammā) are indeterminate (abyākata)? On the occasion when one develops supramundane (lokuttara) jhāna — leading out (niyyānika), conducing to dispersal (apacayagāmī) — for the abandonment of wrong views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first plane (bhūmi): quite secluded from sensual pleasures … one enters and dwells in the first jhāna — of painful progress and sluggish superknowledge (dukkhāpaṭipadā dandhābhiññā), emptiness (suññata), with zeal as dominant (chandādhipateyya) — on that occasion there is contact (phassa) … there is non-distraction (avikkhepa) … These phenomena are wholesome (kusala). As the result (vipāka) of that same supramundane wholesome jhāna — because it has been done, because it has been developed: quite secluded from sensual pleasures … one enters and dwells in the first jhāna — of painful progress and sluggish superknowledge, desireless (appaṇihita), with zeal as dominant — on that occasion there is contact … there is non-distraction … These phenomena are indeterminate.
