[538] Which is that form that is edible nutriment (kabaḷīkāra āhāra)?
Boiled rice, sour gruel (kummāsa), parched-grain flour (sattu), fish, meat, fresh milk, curds, ghee, fresh butter, oil, honey, molasses; or whatever other form there is, in whatever region, that for the beings of that region is to be eaten with the mouth, chewed with the teeth, swallowed down the throat, and sustains the belly — the nutritive essence (ojā) by which beings sustain themselves: this is that form that is edible nutriment.
This is that form which is derived (upādā).
