[587] Which is that form that is edible food (kabaḷiṅkāra āhāra)?
Boiled rice, porridge, parched flour, fish, meat, milk, curds, ghee, fresh butter, oil, honey, molasses; or whatever other form there is, in this or that country, that for these or those beings is to be eaten by the mouth, chewed by the teeth, swallowed down the throat, and that sustains the belly — the nutritive essence (ojā) by which beings subsist: this is that form that is edible food.
Which is that form that is not edible food?
The eye sense base (cakkhāyatana) … the impermanence of form: this is that form that is not edible food.
Thus is the grouping of form in the twofold manner.
