[608] Which form (rūpa) is internal (ajjhattika), not an object (ārammaṇa) of feeling (vedanā) born of body-contact (kāyasamphassa) … of perception (saññā) … of volition (cetanā) … of body-consciousness (kāyaviññāṇa)? The eye sense base (cakkhāyatana) … the body sense base (kāyāyatana) — this is that form which is internal, not an object of body-consciousness. Which form is external (bāhira), an object of body-consciousness? The tangible sense base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana) — this is that form which is external, an object of body-consciousness. Which form is external, not an object of body-consciousness? The form sense base (rūpāyatana) … edible food (kabaḷīkāra āhāra) — this is that form which is external, not an object of body-consciousness.
