[618] Which is that external (bāhira) form (rūpa) that is not the ear-faculty (sotindriya) … that is not the nose-faculty (ghānindriya) … that is not the tongue-faculty (jivhindriya) … that is not the body-faculty (kāyindriya)? The form base (rūpāyatana) … edible nutriment (kabaḷīkāro āhāro) — this is that external form that is not the body-faculty.
Which is that internal (ajjhattika) form that is the body-faculty? That body which is the sensitivity (pasāda) derived from the four primary elements (mahābhūta) … this too is 'an empty village' — this is that internal form that is the body-faculty.
Which is that internal form that is not the body-faculty? The eye base (cakkhāyatana) … the tongue base (jivhāyatana) — this is that internal form that is not the body-faculty.
