[572] What is that form (rūpa) which is the ear-faculty (sotindriya)? … the nose-faculty (ghānindriya)? … the tongue-faculty (jivhindriya)? … the body-faculty (kāyindriya)? That body which is the sensitivity (pasāda) derived from the four primary elements (mahābhūta) … this too is "an empty village" — this is that form which is the body-faculty. What is that form which is not the body-faculty? The eye base (cakkhāyatana) … edible nutriment (kabaḷīkāro āhāro) — this is that form which is not the body-faculty.
