[78] Which on that occasion are the three nutriments (āhāra)? The nutriment of contact (phassāhāra), the nutriment of mental volition (manosañcetanāhāra), the nutriment of consciousness (viññāṇāhāra). Which on that occasion is the nutriment of contact? That which on that occasion is contact (phassa), touching, contacting, the state of being in contact — this on that occasion is the nutriment of contact. Which on that occasion is the nutriment of mental volition? That which on that occasion is volition (cetanā), intending, the state of intending — this on that occasion is the nutriment of mental volition. Which on that occasion is the nutriment of consciousness? That which on that occasion is mind (citta), mentality (mano), mentation (mānasa), heart (hadaya), the pure (paṇḍara), mentality, the mind base (manāyatana), the mind faculty (manindriya), consciousness (viññāṇa), the consciousness aggregate (viññāṇakkhandha), the corresponding mind-consciousness element (tajjā manoviññāṇadhātu) — this on that occasion is the nutriment of consciousness. These on that occasion are the three nutriments.
