[855] Therein, what is skill in attainment (samāpattikusalatā)? There is attainment (samāpatti) accompanied by thought-conception (vitakka) and discursive thought (vicāra); there is attainment without thought-conception, with discursive thought only; there is attainment without thought-conception and without discursive thought. Whatever skill in attainment there is with regard to those attainments—the wisdom (paññā), the understanding (pajānanā), … non-delusion (amoha), investigation of dhammas (dhammavicaya), right view (sammādiṭṭhi)—this is called skill in attainment. Therein, what is skill in emerging from attainment (samāpattivuṭṭhānakusalatā)? Whatever skill there is in emerging from those attainments—the wisdom, the understanding, … non-delusion, investigation of dhammas, right view—this is called skill in emerging from attainment.
