[860] Therein, what is patience (khanti)? That which is patience, being patient (khamanatā), endurance (adhivāsanatā), absence of ferocity (acaṇḍikka), absence of harshness (anasuropa), gladness of mind (citta) — this is called patience. Therein, what is meekness (soracca)? That which is non-transgression (avītikkama) by body, non-transgression by speech, non-transgression by body and speech — this is called meekness. All restraint through virtue (sīlasaṃvara) is also meekness.
