[1104] "Gods (devā)": there are three [kinds of] gods — gods by convention (sammati-deva), gods by rebirth (upapatti-deva), and gods by purification (visuddhi-deva). Gods by convention are kings, queens, and princes. Gods by rebirth are the gods from the gods of the realm of the Four Great Kings (Cātummahārājikā) upward. Gods by purification — it is the Arahants who are so called.
