[127] Therein, what is the nose element (ghānadhātu)? That nose which is sensitivity (pasāda) derived from the four great essentials (mahābhūta) … this too is an empty village — this is called the nose element.
Therein, what is the odour element (gandhadhātu)? That odour which, derived from the four great essentials, is invisible (anidassana) and impinging (sappaṭigha) … this too is the odour element — this is called the odour element.
Therein, what is the nose-consciousness element (ghānaviññāṇadhātu)? In dependence on the nose and odours there arises mind (citta), mentality (mano), mentation (mānasa), heart (hadaya), the lucid (paṇḍara), mentality, the mind base (manāyatana), the mind faculty (manindriya), consciousness (viññāṇa), the aggregate of consciousness (viññāṇakkhandha), the corresponding (tajjā) nose-consciousness element — this is called the nose-consciousness element.
