[148] Therein, what is death (maraṇa)? That which, for these and those beings, is the passing away from this or that order of beings, the state of passing away, the breaking up, the disappearance, mortality, death, the completion of time, the breaking up of the aggregates (khandhā), the laying down of the carcass, the cutting off of the life faculty (jīvitindriya) — this is called death.
