[189] Therein, what is suffering (dukkha)? The three wholesome roots (kusalamūla) that are subject to taints (sāsava), the remaining wholesome phenomena (dhammā) that are subject to taints, the results (vipāka), subject to taints, of wholesome and unwholesome phenomena, those phenomena that are functional (kiriyā) — neither wholesome nor unwholesome nor results of kamma (kammavipāka) — and all form (rūpa): this is called suffering.
