[21] Therein, which volitional formations (saṅkhārā) are past? Those volitional formations that are past, ceased, dissolved, changed, come to an end, utterly come to an end, that having arisen have dissolved, that are past, included in the category of the past — namely: volition born of eye-contact (cakkhusamphassajā cetanā), volition born of ear-contact, volition born of nose-contact, volition born of tongue-contact, volition born of body-contact, volition born of mind-contact — these are called past volitional formations.
Therein, which volitional formations are future? Those volitional formations that are not born, not become, not begotten, not produced, not fully produced, not manifest, not arisen, not fully arisen, not risen up, not fully risen up, that are future, included in the category of the future — namely: volition born of eye-contact … volition born of mind-contact — these are called future volitional formations.
Therein, which volitional formations are present? Those volitional formations that are born, become, begotten, produced, fully produced, manifest, arisen, fully arisen, risen up, fully risen up, that are present, included in the category of the present — namely: volition born of eye-contact … volition born of mind-contact — these are called present volitional formations.
