[237] Therein, which is the eye-faculty (cakkhundriya)? That eye (cakkhu) which is the sensitivity (pasāda) derived from the four primary elements (mahābhūta) … this too is an empty village: this is called the eye-faculty.
Therein, which is the ear-faculty (sotindriya)? … the nose-faculty (ghānindriya)? … the tongue-faculty (jivhindriya)? … the body-faculty (kāyindriya)? That body (kāya) which is the sensitivity derived from the four primary elements … this too is an empty village: this is called the body-faculty.
Therein, which is the mind-faculty (manindriya)? In one way (ekavidhena), the mind-faculty is associated with contact (phassa). … Thus in many ways (bahuvidhena) is the mind-faculty. This is called the mind-faculty.
