[256] Therein, what is ignorance (avijjā)? Absence of knowledge (aññāṇa) of suffering (dukkha), absence of knowledge of the origin (samudaya) of suffering, absence of knowledge of the cessation (nirodha) of suffering, absence of knowledge of the way of practice (paṭipadā) leading to the cessation of suffering — this is called ignorance.
