[457] "Having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world" (vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṃ):
Therein, what is the world? Those same dhammas (dhammā) are the world; the five aggregates subject to clinging (upādānakkhandhā), too, are the world — this is called the world.
Therein, what is covetousness (abhijjhā)? That which is lust (rāga), infatuation (sārāga), … infatuation of the mind (citta) — this is called covetousness.
Therein, what is grief (domanassa)? That which is mental disagreeableness, mental suffering (dukkha), the disagreeable painful experience born of mind-contact (cetosamphassa), the disagreeable painful feeling (vedanā) born of mind-contact — this is called grief.
Thus this covetousness and this grief are removed in this world, thoroughly removed, calmed, stilled, quieted, come to an end, utterly come to an end, destroyed, utterly destroyed, dried up, utterly dried up, done away with. Therefore it is said: "having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world."
