[553] The seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga): the awakening factor of mindfulness (satisambojjhaṅga) … the awakening factor of equanimity (upekkhāsambojjhaṅga). Therein, which are the seven factors of awakening? Here a bhikkhu, on the occasion when he develops supramundane (lokuttara) jhāna that leads out (niyyānika) and goes to dispersal (apacayagāmī), for the abandoning of views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first stage (bhūmi) — quite secluded from sensual pleasures … he enters and dwells in the first jhāna, of painful practice and sluggish direct knowledge (dukkhāpaṭipadā dandhābhiññā) — on that occasion there are seven factors of awakening: the awakening factor of mindfulness … the awakening factor of equanimity.
